Vijayakanth was born as Vijayaraj on 25 August 1952 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. His family deity is Veera Chinnamma at Kangeyanatham. His parents are K. N. Alagarswami and Aandal Azhagarswami. His father had a rice mill and was a popular man in the region. Vijaykanth married Premalatha on 31 January 1990 and had two sons named Vijay Prabhakar and Shanmuga Pandian. Upon entering the film industry to pursue an acting career, Director Khaja (who directed his first film) changed his name to ” Amirtaraj” and then “Vijayakanth”, dropping the “raj” out of his name and suffixing “kanth.” He is nicknamed “Captain” which was taken from his film Captain Prabhakharan. He is a veteran of more than 150 movies. He is known as ‘Captain’ to his fans and collegues in Kollywood. VijayKanth is also called as ‘Puratchi Kalaignar’.

Ramya Krishnan was born in a Tamil brahmin Iyer family in Chennai. She is the niece of Cho Ramaswamy, a comedian, actor, and outspoken politician and trained in Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi dances. Ramya started her acting career at the age of 13 and has an acting career spanning over 25 years. She first played the lead role in Vellai Manasu in Tamil opposite Y. Gee. Mahendra. She was studying in 8th standard when she acted in her first film.

Ramyakrishna’s first Telugu film was Bhalae Mithrulu. Kasinadhuni Viswanath’s masterpiece Suthradharulu, released in 1987 have given first major break to Ramya as a actress. Under the direction of K.Raghavendra Rao, Ramyakrishna established herself as a ‘star’ in Telugu film industry and became a leading heroine in telugu film industry.

Tamil Movie Padayappa (Narasimha in Telugu), has brought her recognition and fame not only in South India but also internationally in Japan, Singapore, London and Paris. Her role (Neelambari) in Padayappa was perhaps the best role of her career and disproved her critics who said that she was a mere glam doll.

Ramya krishnan got married to noted Telugu film director Krishna Vamsi on June 12, 2003 and has since then settled in Hyderabad. She gave birth to a boy (named Ritwik) on February 13, 2005.

They are said to have fallen in love on the set of Sholay (1975) although they had made films together before. He had married Hema while his first wife Prakash Kaur was still alive. As it is illegal under the Hindu Marriage Act for a Hindu to marry another woman without divorcing his first wife, He converted to Islam changed his name to Dilawar Khan, as his first wife, Prakash Kaur, refused to split him.
