Story Line:

A funny tale, the story begins at Banaras and here is the duo of Dharam Singh (dharmendra) and Gajodar Singh (bobby deol) who are expert conmen. They keep taking people for a ride and also, Gajodar has got a love interest in the form of Sahiba (kulraj randhawa), a beautiful girl who hails from Punjab. The story takes a turn with the arrival of Paramveer Singh (sunny), a rich and honest NRI who hails from Vancouver, Canada. Apparently, Paramveer claims that he is the elder brother of Gajodar. Both the conmen decide to welcome Paramveer with the motive of using his strength for their tricky deeds. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Plot Summary:

Vikram Rai Bahadur is the only son of Mrs. Sharda, and sole heir to a vast business and estate. While vacationing with his artiste friend, Gogi, he meets a beautiful girl named Sunita and falls head over heels in love with her. He proposes marriage to her, and she accepts. They get married in a quiet temple ceremony and vow never to part with each other. Shortly thereafter their vehicle meets with an accident. While Gogi sustains minor injuries, Vikram is badly hurt and hospitalized, and Sunita is severely disfigured. Dr. Sahni and Dr. Mehra befriend Sunita and restore her disfigurement by plastic surgery. She quickly recovers, and cannot wait to give the good news to Vikram. Then she finds out that Vikram has given up on her, and is engaged to another beautiful, but wealthy young woman named Rita. Vikram is unable to recognize Sunita nor is interested in knowing her. Sunita decides to change her name to Kusum Mehra, and begins life anew. Will Vikram and Kusum’s paths cross in the future, and if so, will they be able to remember their vows?

Story Line:

The flick peeks into the lives of 12 people from diverse backgrounds and weaves together multiple stories which include racial discrimination, communal bias, immigrant issues, class and caste issues etc with all the events unfolding in a single day in the city of Mumbai where the characters are based.

What make the film classy are the well-penned dialogues, direction and the performances. N. Chandra deserves huge applauds for connecting all the stories together. The execution of the subject is fantastic. The brilliance is that each single story connects you with it. The only issue is the culminations. The director has tried his best to keep the ending on happy note rather than having a dark end which films tackling such subjects end up with. The length of the film distrubs. It should have been limited to two hours.
